The present study “The Role of Women Parliamentarians in the Parliament of Pakistan 2002-
2008″ in the 12th National Assembly is a comprehensive documentation on the performance of
the 12th National Assembly including the issues of legislation, role of women Parliamentarians
in moving bills, interventions through participation in the debates. The 2002-2008 legislation
records shows that women played a key role in picking up issues on violence, health,
education, environment, governance through all available means of legislative procedures.
They were learning rules and applying them. They were taking part in discussions, asking
questions. They quickly gained confidence and demonstrated their ability to draft the bill or get
them drafted. The purpose of the study was to see how women worked in social, political,
economic sector in the parliament of Pakistan and how they documented different issues and
highlighted their achievements in the house. For data collection, the study has relied
extensively on the Legislative Assembly Debates, Bills presented in the legislature and
speeches and statement of the women parliamentarians. Books and articles have also been used
as secondary sources.
