National Capacity Building Workshop for the Honorable Parliamentarians on “Strategic Communication & Media Engagement in Crisis Situation”

Islamabad, February 13th 2019: Two day National Capacity Building Workshop for the Honourable Parliamentarians on “Strategic Communication & Media Engagement in Crisis Situation” commenced at Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in collaboration with Pakistan Peace Collective & Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The workshop was attended by over 30 members of Senate, National Assembly, the Four Provincial Assemblies and Legislative Assemblies of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

In his address on the second day, Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, Natural History and Literary Heritage, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, said that we have a rich history of tolerance and peace. Stressing on the importance of dialogue in addressing extremism, the minister mentioned that a systemic way to end hate speech will be in place very soon. Executive Director Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) Zafarullah Khan lauded the role of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting & Pakistan Peace Collective in promotion of the national narrative and peace building. Chief Executive Pakistan Peace Collective Shabbir Anwar thanked PIPS for arranging and facilitating the workshop in an efficient manner.

The workshop included several sessions on media engagement, psychological impact of strategic communication, dissemination of national narrative and crisis communication management.  The sessions were moderated by renowned broadcasters including Barrister Mahreen Khan, Khurshid Nadeem, Quatrina Hussain and psychiatrist Brig. Dr. Mowadat H. Rana. The participants were also passed through a mock exercise to orientate them about the importance of the message that they are conveying in the crisis situation.
